Most people would have responded differently. They have placed all of their energies on material gain and not enough on spiritual growth. They have made their possessions "god."
When you comment that the system is designed for us to fail, you must first ask yourself what am I failing at? This world as we know it is designed to have "classes" of people, and the education system along with the government plays a major part in keeping that system in place. Our society has not awakened enough to realize that fact, and they in turn perpetuate its degradation. That is the reason the schools are funded based on property value...if you are working class with a lower income, you will continue to be educated to "turn the millstone." If you are in a more affluent area, education will cater toward finance, arts, medicine, sciences. Once we realize the system for what it is, we can break free from it and live our lives as God intended... as free spiritual beings. No class divisions, no race divisions, just one human family.
I had to ask myself the question "what am I failing at?" When I realized that I was failing at the things that didn't matter when the end of my life comes...being wealthy, having expensive possessions, becoming famous; I began to live a more simple life. And I am happier for doing so.
