They Said It Wouldn't Last But Rap Music Has Had A Very Long Past
views: 196
They said it wouldn't last,
But rap music has had a very long past,
Kurtis Blow, Sequence and the Sugar Hill Gang,
Were party rappers who did their thang!
Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five,
And Run DMC kept the party alive,
LL Cool J, Heavy D & Da Boyz, Queen Latifah, Monie Love
And Salt and Pepa,
Came along to add some flava,
Then came NWA, Ice T, Warren G, and
Snoop Dogg their west coast neighbors,
Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew
Kept us afloat,
And UTFO was on the same note,
There was Kool Moe Dee, EPMD and and Naughty by Nature,
Big Daddy Kane and Eric B. and Rakim,
Always talkin' 'bout gettin' that paper,
There was KRS One,
And Nas the talented Son,
Back in da day Whodini and the Fat Boys were a force to
Be reckoned with,
Groups like Public Enemy set out to destroy myths,
Then there was the Beastie Boys and Onyx,
Whose lyrics were filled with pure sonics!
There was a Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul,
Whose beats were always fresh and funky and never old,
There was Special Ed and Count Cool Out,
And the Rapping Duke and Biz Markie who went the funny route,
Then everyone started feeling Rob Base, Third Bass and Kool Moe Dee,
Then the south rose up with the Getto Boys
and OutKast,
The Midwest rang out with Da Brat, Common and Twista, you
know the one who raps really fast!
Now on the Midwest scene we have Kendrick Lamar
AKA 'A-Benz-is-to-me-just-a-car!
Rapping along with Drake and Two Chainz!
There was Tone Loc with the very deep voice,
And Too Short who was the ladies choice!
Then there was Young MC and Vanilla Ice who some say paid
The ultimate price for trying to build up street cred,
Then there are the two rappers who turned up dead,
Tupac and Biggie!
Then Will Smith taught us how to get Jiggy!
There was Ja Rule and DMX,
Who jumped on the scene and demanded our respect!
There was Chubb Rock and Diggable Planets,
Man rap's past is so awesome damn it!
There was Pete Rock and CL Smooth
And Busta Rhymes who just jumps in the rhyme and hits the groove!
There was Scarface our very own Grim Reaper,
and Main Source the Front Door Keeper,
Then there's Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Craig Mack,
The Wu-Tang Clan and Gorilla Black!
There was Black Sheep and DJ Quik,
Roxanne Shante and Hammer who was too legit!
There's Yo Yo, MC Lyte, Mia X and Lil Kim,
Fat Joe, Nelly, Jada Kiss, Ludacris and who can forget
Eminem?
Let's not forget Old Dirty B. and Eazy E. and Big Pun.
For something that should have just been a fad
There are too many names to the list to add.
Mystikal had the world 'shaking it fast'
and Jay Z,
Retired and came back with a blast,
There are even Jamaican rappers like Sean Paul and Petra,
Rapping with accents that they throw at ya,
My heyday was the 80's,
When the fellas got down as well as the ladies.
I think that 50 Cent and The Game had a good run,
And helped to keep rap at number one!
I kind of get lost when it comes to the newer acts,
Think I am getting older and a bit relaxed.
But I wish rap much more success
Because so many people have given it their best.
Wait a minute I can't forget one of the first ladies
of rap and that is the incomparable Foxy Brown,
Whom I wish would come back and put it down!
There's also cute Bow Wow, Lil Jon and Lil Wayne and the
East Side Boyz and the Cash Money Millionaires,
and Red Man and Method Man who travel in pairs!
Then there's Fabolous and Lil Wayne with his crazy
antics.
There is Nikki Minaj who runs around absolutely frantic,
Running around looking like Left Eye reincarnated
on steroids,
With enough testosterone to fill the void!
Then there's Chingy, Drake, Hurricane Chris and TI,
Who will continue to keep rap surviving on the bye and bye.
