Five months later
Graduation was near and so was the time for me to tell moms
and the fam i was leaving for iraq two weeks after graduation. It was getting a
little stressful for me. Friday came around and i was back from combat
training. had on cameo cargo pants, an short sleeve dark green shirt and tan hi
rise combat boots had on my dogtags and my hair was brushed finely into a
ponytail. had drove on over to the high school to pick up Art and Stone. they
got in the car, they saw what i was wearing and Art ask "its time isnt
it?" I nod my head, than stone place his hand on my arm and said
"we're here for you." I nod as i took a deep breath. had drove on
over to the middle school, parked in a spot. we had waited for the bell to ring
than we came inside the school, art said "i'll get mom." i said
"have her come to the h.i. office." he said "alright." we
walked up the steps saw Ange she saw us and grasp when she saw what i was
wearing. I said "can you, lynne and them meet up in the h.i. office?"
she ans "sure." than me and stone walked to the office, the teachers
werent there so we came in the room stood off to the side. I was getting a
little scared. than lynne, ange, Ms.Luke, and auntie mel came in the room. they
stood there scaring at me than art came in with mom. she was like "ok,
whats goin....?" she stopped in mid sentence when she saw me wearing a
army uniform. I had that look on my face had said "few months ago i signed
up for the army, ive been in training ever since...im being shipped to iraq two
weeks after graduation." they all grasp "what?" I looked at mom,
took a step towards her as i said "mom im.." she held up her hand as
she turned her head to the side she was trying not to cry. she said "uhun
mm dont.." she shook her head as she ran out the room. i sigh as i went
after her went past mr.D and Ms.E. ran in the office, mom swing her office door
to close, i stopped it as i came in and closed it had said "mom im
sorry." came up behind her she turned around and slapped me hard across my
face, they grasp when they saw that. my head was turnt to the side, exhale
deeply and said "im sorry mom, im sorry i gotta do this." she was
crying i moved to hold her she kept trying to push me away i finally got my
arms around her she was telling me to let her go, i said "no, you didnt
let me go..so im not going to let you go...im so sorry mom." Stone and Art
came to the office, they saw Evans and Destino standing outside, they also saw
me and mom hugging and mom was crying. Ms.Eask "whats going on?"
Stone ans "Tru finally told Kate that she's joined the army and is leaving
for iraq two weeks after graduation." they grasp, had looked at us as Mr.D
said "i see why kate would be upset." After awhile she let go of me
and said "im going home." she grab her stuff, had Art drive her home
in her truck. Had walked back to the h.i. office saw Ms.B and Ange and auntie
mel sitting down at the table they was still stunned. I exhale as i came in the
room and sat down with them. Had talked to them for a long time, than i said
"i want all of us to get together before i leave...i dont know how long im
going to be gone so i wanna see yall before i go." they nod their heads
gave each a hug and left. had dropped Stone off at his crib and rolled on home.
parked in the driveway and came in the house, saw mom sitting in the den
smoking a mild and drinking some hen. Right there and then I knew she is
mad..pissed off at me. i took a deep breath as i came in the den and sat down
across from her. I scared at her, than looked down. i began saying "im not
doing this because of you, im doing for me." She ask "when?" I
ans "since the begining of junior year, than i signed up second week of
senior year...i didnt tell you cause i knew you would talk me out of it."
she said "you damn right i would, kourt!" as she slam her hand on the
table. I said "im sorry mom i really am, but this is something i have to
do, ok." she ask "you are doing this becuase i didnt tell you that i
knew your mother was undercover?" I sigh "no, i thought about doing
this for years..even if you did know or didnt i was still doing to join regardless..i
need to do this mom." i got up and left on out the house. she began
crying, i got in my car and drove on over to mami's job. had parked along side
of the curb, got out and lean against the passenger's side door. pulled my cell
out and called mami. she said "hey you." I said "hey, you're not
busy doing anything are you?" she ans "no, why whats up?" I ans
"i was wondering if you can come outside to talk." she said "yea
im on my way down." we hung up, she came on outside saw me standing there.
she smirk as she came and gave me a hug, i hugged back. she could tell i wasnt
havent a good day. she stood back and looked at me and ask "i take it kate
didnt take the news of you joining the army well?" I nod my head as i said
yea." i thought to myself and looked at her as i ask "wait, how do
you know i joined the army?" she said "well for one the uniform was a
dead giveaway and two jameson told me two days after you signed up." I
said "why didnt you say anything if you knew?" mami ans "i figured
you'll tell me when you're good and ready." we talked for a long time then
we left she went back to work and i went on over to simone's crib. had hang out
with her for awhile than i went on home. came in the house around one in the
morning. had closed and locked the door went upstairs to my room had changed
into my pjs and laid up in my bed had drew a sketch in my pad than went to bed.
couple minutes later mom came and stood by my door had peeked through the crack
and saw me asleep. she went in her room and went to sleep, she ended up having
a bad dream about me being in the army. Early the next morning i woke up
changed into some bball shorts a sports bra and a sports armor shirt had on my
running shoes, had my hair in a ponytail grab my earbugs and cell. had went
outside strech and went on my morning run. I had ran for a long time, ran all
the way downtown...which is about a good thirty to thirty five miles from the
house. Had took a little break drank some water than i ran to the dragon
warehouse. had worked out there for two hours as i was finna to head on back
home queenie stopped me. she ask "hey did run all the way here?" I
nod my head as i put my earbugs back in, and ran all the way back home. made it
back home an hour later, didnt stop running til i got in the driveway. had
stood there for awhile as i catch my breath. mom was standing in the window
scaring at me. I came inside went upstairs to my room and got in the shower.
took a good long hot shower than i got out oil and spray my body down. put on a
fresh pair of briefs, tan skinny jeans, a sports bra and a white long sleeve
shirt. had sat on the bed put on my socks went in the bathroom had oil and
brushed my hair, had decided to wear it down. it was all long black mixed with
light brown and wavy. had put on my studs, watch, bracelet and locket necklace.
Had went downstairs into the living room sat down on the couch, had my legs
crossed up on the couch. Was sketching in my pad when mom came down and saw me
sitting in the living room. She lean against the wall as she said "hey."
I looked at her and said "hey mom." she said "you ran for a long
time." I ans "yea, needed to run though." I scared at her could
tell she didnt sleep well last night. she had turned and went in the kitchen. I
got up place my pad on the coffee table and went in the kitchen. saw mom
standing facing the counter. I came and stood real close behind her, had ask
"you dreamt about me didnt ya?" she nod her head and exhale deeply
"i'm scared, kourt...scared that im going to lose you again and i dont want
you to go." I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight as i said
"i know you're scared, i wont let anything happen to me im always going to
be here with you im going to call write skype and eveything you're always going
to be on my mind." she turned around and held me as she cried a bit. than
she looked at me and said "promise me you're going to always keep in touch
with me while overseas no matter what the time is here and there you call or
skype me." I said "i promise mom." we held each other tight.
later that day i came in mom's room she was laying in her bed, i stood in the
doorway she looked at me and pat her hand on the bed as she smiled. I came in
and climb on the bed, laid up real close to her and laid my head on her chest.
love hearing her heartbeat had wrapped my arms around her as she did the same.
we were at our most closest when we do this. couple minutes later we fell asleep, had took an two hour nap.
