They purchased us in bulks
Stained are past that negatively shaped our future
Then tossed us into society’s trash
We are labeled as illiterate addicts
Our thoughts of true freedom never escaped the attic within our minds
Trained to minimize rebellion
Keep your hand out like apes within a cage
Hoping for some sweet change
A little food stamps or welfare
Which never make it past the 15th day of the month
Keep your handouts and incentives
Keep your false empathy
I would rather have equal education
Than to be placed within a group to be later judged
For accepting what you have provided for my kind
I seek social justice
From the corners, shelters, schools, colleges, work space, and political offices
I lack credibility because of the color of my skin
Whenever something is stolen I am the first to be questioned
Whenever something was done excellent
I am the last hand to be shook
Yes I am a black man
An angry black man that has had everything taken away
But as my father use to say, “If there’s a will there’s a way!”
So I vowed to rebuke failure
And reach for the stars
