Deserving

By some stretch of the mind, I think I deserved to be mistreated  
Battle scars are there to remind me, of being down, I’m not defeated
Embracing all the pain, it’s not enough, I feel like I deserved more
Broken down to be built back better, I know weakness left my core
Roads we take are our own, I know my mom will be good 
Paths we now know as bad, a different view from where she stood  
Happiness I did not find in a house, where two were not home
The absence of, taught the meaning of stay, I learn to define roam
The innocence of the youth should not be abused, I suffer for them 
 Loneliness of hearing the lights go off, if this is Love I Condemn
There are no stories to be written, only short poems where love began 
If History is to repeat itself, peace into her soul, woe unto man.

Isolation

My heart my life my all Got me contemplating...
stuck in thought, worried, not concentrating...
feeling like I’m about to lose...
society telling me that I have to choose...
rhythm or blues, 
it’s not black or white, decision getting hard...
not right so I stand guard, marred...
I stand alone so I’m not married...
baggage I carried...

and say the best things in life are not for me...
who am I to disagree...

SPRITE

Life gave me lemons so I took heed
Squeezed out the juice and planted the seed
Then they said a tree won’t grow 
If it never been done how they know
Those who spoke fruit I speak Youth 
Tree of knowledge and the seed is truth
Fists clenched because I know there’s more
They looking to see if it’s the same as before 
Rising the price, sip lemonade with laughter

Grew up on Roots, proud to be black

Once leaves start to fall realized we lacked

Different strokes for different folks,  it seemed

The worlds different, see it’s condemned to Kadeem 

To promote higher learning some went to college  

Tuition fees, books, and fed BS represented knowledge 

No fair, Failing to get on the bus

Menace to society, justice, not just to us

Looking for a spark, no news was good

So two men become boys in the hood

What can go wrong, when I write
Nothing in the day, so spend the night 
Just to buy time, for my eyes to watch
Two hands go down, and up a notch
Attention being paid, please don't mind
Working to get ahead, fine being behind

Who Knew

No one told her she was beautiful, 
so confidence she lacked...
