You caught my eye
I was mesmerized
You touched my face
And time stood still for just a moment.
I smiled in awe
As your personality and charm
Interposed themselves
In and around my heart
I had fallen for you.
Soon every thing became about you
My thoughts, my dreams
My days and nights
My everything.
And just when all seemed well
Subtle changes began to raise doubts
Like thermostatic mercury
Nothing was the same anymore.
My feet came out from under me
Everything was upside down
Discombobulated and turned around
Whoa!! What in the name of love!?!?!?
Life started out as we
As us, we were one
Until cold shoulders and raised noses
Brought clarity to my reality
I gave you everything I had
Willingly, unconditionally
Emotionally, spiritually and physically
What more do you want?
Your accusations even when
Proven wrong didn't hold
Any merit with you
Nothing I did mattered anymore.
Well, ha ha newsflash my friend
I refuse to be broken
Or stepped on and walked over
Like dirt and pavement.
Your hold on me has let go
Your reign of pain has ended
I've given you enough
It's time I give back to myself
You almost had me in the end
But almost doesn't count
I love me too much to be
Your sacrificial love.
