Prisoner/Slave

I can no longer tell the difference between
prisoners and slaves
cause in your eyes you see us only as property
the time of the chattel seems to be making its way back
the colour of our skin- in that you fear
and you just keep on finding excuses
to rob us of our morals
being that you can't face the fact that you know of no such thing
facing the face of thee devil
who I once thought was beneath us
only to reckon that he is here among us
choosing to taking his insecurities out on those he wish to not understand
can you tell me if you see a difference between the two?

Well penned, EmpressRee. Today, the two are almost synonyms. The latest stats indicate that there are more black men in prison today than there in slavery in the 1860s. And many of them are being rented out as free labourers---aka, slaves. In 2015, the plantations seem to be alive and well! Peace, Love and Liberation. Continue to write on.
