Please Don’t Shoot
By Tinesia Davenport 4/28/15
Mothers are crying while their sons are dying leaving the innocent forgotten. What about the brown skinned boy whose future was bright. He looked to his dreams with the intention of a better life. He is taken away because this nation has failed him.
He walks with no direction,
He speaks with no voice,
He reaches out but no one grabs his hand.
I will fight for my sons. I will stand in the gap for them. I will raise them with the knowledge of GOD and all his benefits. I will teach them right from wrong.
I dare you tell me that is not good enough,
When is enough, enough?
I will push through the eyes of those who despise my words. I will be the voice of this generation. I will keep my ears open to GOD for her hears the prayers of the righteousness. Who am I you may ask? Let me tell you,
I am a mother of two sons, a sister to a brother,
A friend to the uncorrupted,
And, I am a woman ready to embrace change.
One day this nation will rise and justice will not be blinded anymore. One day black and brown men will escape the discrimination that society has placed them IN.
They will educate their children,
Be respected,
And most of all LIVE!!!!
So I ask please don’t shoot,
Don’t deny us,
Don’t forget us.
What would a mother do to protect her son?
Will she not give her life?
Will she not go to God on his behalf?
I only come with peace. I come with the words and meditation of my heart to only be acceptable by GOD.
Please don’t shoot and take away the hope and future of the men to come.
Please don’t shoot to tear down the walls of equality.
Please don’t shoot to leave broken hearts with no void to fill and our daughters without protection.
Please don’t shoot to leave darkness to cover what once was light. Please don’t shoot as he pleads for his life! You say “he is a thug,” you say “look at his tattoos;” you say “oh he comes from that neighborhood.” BUT EVEN IF THAT IS TRUE what gives you the right to shoot?
