Flowing Freely

Love is time

It stands up

In the mist of trouble

Its breath consumes

Our emotions

It will change the very essences

That makes us who we are

A touch of its understanding

Beings hope

Love is a sacrifice used as an offering

To open up ones intellect by

Accepting new possibilities

Of a future that exist

Behind a wall

Built from life's regrets

Love makes one free

Love lives where

Seeing eyes cannot  reach

A Dedication to my Poetic Brothers

Waking up to Folgers in my cup

Reading written words from my brothers

 Knowing that they still exist behind pen and paper

Gives me hope for a better tomorrow

 Voices like Malcom

Leadership like Frederick

Hearts like Martin

Inspiring like Medgar Evans

Sense of humor like Mr. Gregory

Sam Cook said “a change is gonna come”

Langston said “hold fast to our dreams “

Marcus said “with confidence we already won “

Stokely said “we ain’t running no more”

Keep writing kings of the Most High

Never stop expressing who you are  

And where you come from

 Nothing but love 

Out the Mouth of Babes

History is only history printed in textbooks full of lies

Erasing the depths of our identity

Separating a creation of a nation

Full of distraught memories, leaving us

Slanged and deranged from our abilities

Insulting our intelligence

But they forgot about those 80’s babies

Dark skinned with a force to be recon with

Spirit as hymns used in the songs of freedom

Overflowing with knowledge of wisdom

Growing up in crack houses and habituated to gang violence  

Pressing towards the mark of a higher calling

To return what was stolen

From this country

Dignity, Respect, Education, Equality

Writing the vision plain upon tables

In hopes that he may run who reads

For this appointed time

Sent to defeat the forces of evil

Defending the apple of his eye

It shall speak and not lie

We Entertain

Feet wounded from the branches

Of the trees our brothers forcefully hung from

Mocking the tears shed

For equality sake

Leaving false   possibilities

In hopes of failure

Government assistance

As if we needed the favor

Selling dreams to the uneducated

Especially when we were told

We could never be

 Now the tables have turn

Now we are seen as assets

America is strong because of us

Family tradition came from us

The fist of power

Beams from the graves of our ancestors

Pumping inspiration and dedication

Through the veins of this generation  

So I embrace this natural fro

I embrace the feathers of my Indian heritage

To remind those

Of this war we already won  

My sisters and brothers

Every creed and every color

The ball is in our court

If I had a dollar

For every time you said I love you

 I will still be broke

 Your words are penniless

Good girl gone bad

Anything you needed

A diamond is a girl’s best friend

I find that hard to believe

Looking at

Brown eyes of dreams

Unconditional love

Regardless  of  what  I’ve done

To them I am the world

A hero,

Every sacrifice I made

I will do again

A hug, a kiss

Welcomes me everyday

A cry, a laugh,

I can distinguish miles away

I will choose death

For them to keep life

No man will ever complete

An infatuation so deep

It reaches past the soul

Madness will creep

If anyone does them harm

Happiness will weep

When I see

The God fearing men

They will become

Trapped in the Mindset

Fast money in this home of dysfunction

The only love we've ever known

Flashy chains of assumptions

Bond around the neck

Respect, is a privilege

It earned never given

Snitches get stiches

The motto to hood living

Spinning wheels of deception

Leaving  young minds wishing

Evidence of the weapons

Used for mass destruction

Outlined with white chalk

Is never the discussion

“We don’t die we multiply”

Stated from the fallen foot soldiers

NO help wanted

Just open graves

Trapped in the mindset 

Native Lands

Taking from the shores of Africa

Killed by the gun of the MAN

 No border to enter

Public Housing 

Reservations

Is their intentions

Is it just me?

Doesn’t this land belong to us?

Wasn’t the first person

IN AMERICA of a darker complexion

We work well with our hands

Strong backs of broken men

Strip of dignity

Our women carry on

Our babies are born healthy

It's jealousy, seen so clearly

Form the front page news

To every home in every city

Victory, is not an option

It’s ordained

Soon to be conquered

Futuristic Thoughts

Fight the power

Spoken with such gratitude

We are the people.

Driven with such attitude

Thinking of Harriet’s pride

And Malcom’s intelligence

Who am I not to want a piece

Of this destiny presented before me

Imagine all minorities

Standing together as the majority

A dream our ancestors died for

A movement to

Force closed hands to open

Exposing the truth of our government

As I walk through the valley

Hard times cause for high praises

Inclining thine ear unto His wisdom

Applying thine heart to His understanding

Preserving the way for His saints

Correcting whom He delights

The wicked will not roam here

Nor will evil reside

Since my armor is made of righteousness 

No one will find me hiding

In this place that shields me

Delivers me and provides for me

Often times feeling defeated

Dotting my I’s and crossing my T’s

Letting patients have its virtue
