This girl was born in small rural town
Her life was hard before her feet first touched solid ground
Druggies for parents no one there to protect
She grew up lonely
She grew up not knowing
She never knew trust
She never knew love
She only knew lies
She only knew judgment and drugs and hard life
She hated her life she hated herself
She became a teen and only knew how to give one part of herself
She gave her body to anyone who asked
She let lust fill her needs never giving a damn
She thought sex would ease the pain
She thought love she would gain
She only gained more self-hate and pain
With no one to guide her she fell deeper and deeper
The little girl now a woman lost in the system
Three children by fathers unknown
She walks the streets a zombie
Alone
She attempted to raise her children with respect and dignity
She tried to instill morals and love
But she asks “how can teach this, if it was never shown to me?”
Her mind her hope left her long ago
Her children grown ran from the woman and left her alone
Her life ends as it begun
Alone and sad with no one
She is the sad woman down the block
We never pay attention to the old woman hunched over tears in her eyes with the slow walk
We turn our heads if eye contact is made
We are uncomfortable with her hard cold stare
If only we knew she was calling for help
A kind word
A smile
Even a head nod of acknowledgement would have helped
She shuffles back to her cold lonely place
No love no laughter
Just her and her pain
