I heard her say, "I'll never go back
but, she went back on every word
trowing away everything
she ever learned
she burned with more than desire
everything, she worked for
she lost in her own fire
her children turned her away and they
don't want to see her face no more
she's lost somewhere
as if she cannot be found
buck naked in a backroom of a
trap house
somewhere underground
the doors wide open
but, she can't cross the threshold
keeping the shame captive
still the secrets manages to get out
she thinks she's hiding
but, she gets found out
she finds it hard to get up off the ground
or up from the steps of a dirty porch
she's no longer clean
she went back to doing her own thing
we know how this story ends
round and round and back again
25 years clean
what does that really mean?
too many in between
fire don't mix with gasoline
