Purpose
By Samuel K Byrd
Is it that our destiny can be determined by stars?
Or is it just pure dumb luck that has got us this far
Most of us search for some purpose in our lives
Only to be characterized as a mother, father as husbands or wives
But are we only defined by how we are perceived by another?
Or is it something else that keeps us from going further
What was lost can be gained again
Sometimes we just need a comforting word from a close friend
The job is gone; you're back to renting and you had to trade in the Jag
We need to focus more on what we have instead of what we had
Everything in this world is rented, borrowed, and will soon expire
So, live for you and not others’ wants needs and desires

Ditching the Dirt Roads â„¢ by S. Kristopher Byrd I've driven these same dirt roads
back and forth, over and over again.
The dust on my boots, the mud on my flaps
is the dirt left by my past that I considered a win.
Riding carefree with the windows down, sun in my face
unaware of the world around me and what's taking place.
Out here I'm free, free to be whoever I wanna be
not having to conform to the whims of society.
However, dirt roads still have have rules to follow
and when enforced my pride I must now swallow.
Like the truck in which I traveled these dirt roads so freely
I've been towed, impounded, now faced with a harsh reality.
I've asked myself, what does a captain and pilot both share?
A destination and a navigator to safety get them there.
Someone to plot the best path for the destined route
while planning for turbulence or an occasional water spout. |
My Wish I wish I had heart to break
one that felt pain from losing you
in the house you left when you took our home
love walked out, loneliness ran in
I just wish I had a heart
I wish I had a heart to break
my eyes might shed tears
my apologies might sound sincere
my mind might retain memories
I just wish I had a heart
I wish I had a heart to break
when I gave some away, it was regifted
what I kept, social media poisoned
where love once flowed, now lies barren
I just wish I had a heart
I wish I had a heart to break
a desert you tried to water with a lake
your leaving neither abrupt nor unexpected
no feelings of sadness or feelings at all
I just wish I had a heart to break

Jesus 2018 By
Samuel K Byrd
What if Jesus was to come back in 2018?
Much like the way he did back when
The son of God sent to walk amongst mortal men
What country would he see?
And this time what would his profession be
A Plummer, a lawyer, a senator from Illinois, possibly
Would his message be well received?
If he had disciples, how many would he need?
Would his miraculous miracles be believed?
Would he be able to breathe life into a struggling economy?
Take a land that thrives in tyranny and restore harmony
Calm the concerns of seniors and make them feel healthy
Would he bring forth change in these trying times?
Would we see a decline in violent crime?
Should we be able to feel safe and have peace of mind?
But how long wo... |
When The Smile Fades When The Smile Fades
By
Samuel K Byrd
There, that’s right, yes, do it again
That’s it yeah, no, don’t stop
Don’t you ever stop, I want you to always
Smile for me
As long as I can see that smile on your face
I know that with you I’ve earned my place
A smile, just a simple smile
Followed by a short laugh
Just for that small request
I would trade in all I have
But what happens when the smile fades?
No, no, no
You not smiling, is something I could not conceive
Never, never, never
Would I make you frown, something you can believe?
To look a pond the face
of the one that helps me get through the day
How could I allow anyone, even my self?
To bring pain your way... |
Angel Returned to Heaven Angel Returned to Heaven
(In Memory of My Sister)
By Sam Byrd
An angel returned to heaven today
deployed to erase gluttonous hate
from envy's grasp love is pulled away
To bring order to disarray
supplying hope while replacing sloth
An angel returned to heaven today
Armed with beauty, charm and compassion
pride is now faced with a trained assassin
whether with song, a smile, a shoulder or ear
greed, anger and lust is sent running in fear
An angel returned to heaven today
after years of service in the field
from the mission never did she stray
In our hearts she will forever stay
so, let us remember, let us rejoice
cause our angel returned to heaven on this day
For my sister Chantey

No Turning Back No Turning Back
by S. Kristopher Byrd
Life and boxing are much the same
Both take courage to play the game
It's not the hits you give
It’s the ones you take
To step in to this ring
It’s heart you must bring
Most won’t try to participate
Some sit out and only speculate
But not I
I’m not giving up, no I’m not turning back
I’ll stay the course even when my life is off track
The path I’m on will be filled with potholes
But I’m not giving up, no I’m not turning back
Knocked down 5, got up 6
Took 10 shots, only 4 I missed
You say can’t, I say can
Quit is what I can’t understand
Will walk through fire
To prove you’r... |
