Somebody is watching me
I don't know who
But
I can feel their eyes
With every movement
They sit
Quietly
Anticipating
my next action
So
I choose to
RISE
to every occasion
For I know that my next step will bring
Contemplation
Once
I
thought of myself as a
nobody
Overlooked and
Unappreciated
Just another statistic
in this crazy
mixed up world
Chained
to the role that society has created for
Me
Only able to accumulate and
assimilate
with the scrapes of
Fate
that have been placed before me
Then
resounding in my heart and head is
Somebody is watching me
But who could that possibly be?
My little daughter
with her eyes so big and wide
Glimmers of hope sparkle and shine
My little son
with the sweetest smile
as we jump, play and enjoy being wild
on sunny days
The 12-year old girl
who has missed her period again
she is afraid to tell because she'll lose all of her friends
The 15-year old boy
with his sagging
swaggin' pants
full of hormones and lighting a Black & Mild
wearing nothing but red
cause he wanna be down
The homeless green eyed lady
with so much knowledge to give
The mayor of the town
who has forgotten how she lives
The cop who arrested my lover
so many moons ago
The man who wouldn't stop beating his woman
just because she said
"No"
The pastor
The doctor
The CIA and
FBI
The woman who lost her son in Iraq
with tears now in her eyes
Somebody is watching me
I hear it once again
I take a look in the mirror
Then try and do better
AGAIN
