Last year I was watching "The Wiz" with my kid,
When the Scarecrow sang, she was shocked at what I did,
So was I,
Believe it or not, I started to cry!
I mean an ugly cry, "You can't win",
Tears flowed as soon as the song began,
"You can't get over, you can't get out of the game!"
My life summed up in a song, I was ashamed,
I had seen and heard it a dozen times,
As a kid it was fun, I liked how it rhymed,
But as an adult, the lyrics hit me like a eulogy,
Of my ignorance and bliss, just realized how America's been abusing me,
Discrimination, veteran, mortgages, taxes, high interest rates, debt, its crazy!
I really can't get out of the game, be working 'till I'm 80!
I don't want my baby to feel like this,
Trapped, disillusioned, fustrated and pissed,
My parents felt the same way too,
To break the cycle and change the game,
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
