Not Only Words
(NOT ONE WORD WENT UNNOTICED)
You gave a mighty good speech
No staggering of words used to teach
Later opinions mentioned of your skin, the color of your eyes
As if no light would be seen without the dark canvas of the sky
Authenticity so what's NOW
Mighty fine he is, is his the voice of social justice, social change
His truths spoken with vernacular eloquence and no shame
Now petitions circulating whether he should be fired or keep his job
All because he spoke thoughts from the heart
Words used to incite the minds and eyes awareness
For I do agree we as African Americans our talents our strengths are magic
Our sameness never defined as equality no balance in conversations
Liberty and justice is and will be a continual fight for us
Now It's nothing new words that can incite action perhaps from a few
I give thought to the magic as well
And the exploitation, the dollars paid to those willing to sale
A choice made to stand on the porch or stand in the field
Now misguided anger and confusion unmasked as truths are now being revealed
Headlines,Facebook Twitter everybody's talking now
Anticipating that NOT ONLY WORDS will lead to a pow
