Shame On Us
For us, much beauty
of nature is denied;
not by being taken away;
but with sorrowful solemnity
we must mourn those who unjustly died;
leaving us laying them to rest day after day.
We can’t stop, take time and smell the roses;
racism has too many death threats that it imposes
We can’t casually walk along the beautiful sea shore;
feel and enjoy the calming, salty serene sea breezes.
Bigotry and injustices have closed the sandy door;
and murder roams the streets and does as it pleases.
Shame—what a pathetic shame—shame has no fear.
No need needed for insensitivity and apathy to disappear;
old wounded justice will not get any healing attention here;
life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is no longer held sincere.
