My arm is numb,
Above my head and under yours,
Legs locked like Maple tree roots,
Sheets and pillows pushed to the corners of the bed,
Too dark to be morning,
Too light to be night,
It's a quarter to five in the morning,
The red glow of the alarm clock paints the wall pink,
Every sound in and out of the room is distant,
From the birds to the cat on the floor,
A plane, train, or car passes by,
A faint sound in the distance,
I try to make a fist, but my fingers won't obey,
My arm is asleep, the blood rushes back to the heart,
I kiss your neck and feel your pulse,
I don't want to wake up, why can't the whole day be like this?
Not too hot, not too cold, time is frozen,
No deadlines, no phone calls, no TV, no e-mails,
Just you and I hibernating like animals....
