In a hospital bed sick, nurses' bantered with pure candor,
Dazed as I gazed at the light above in amber,
"Sir, I need you to void your bowels", barked loud,
No good morning, hello, kindness or smile,
That must be beyond my insurance price,
Feeling woozy as I stood, my knees shook like dice,
Crap, the toilet seat was as cold as ice,
How did I get here, taking my health for granted,
Sides in pain as I strained, eyes watered and slanted,
Looking damn ridiculous in this hospital gown,
Pride humbled as I stumbled back, my IV stand fell down,
The nurse was terse as she assisted and held back a curse,
I was ashamed and felt worse,
When I told her that I could not poop or pee.
