Them against the world,
Proud, loud, men, women, boys, and girls,
Social programs, pamphlets and guns,
Feeding and educating our daughters and sons,
Afros and dashikis uniquely displayed our pride,
Made Dr. King move to Chicago's southside,
Fighting for education, healthcare, and piece of mind,
Great ideas, and intentions, just in the wrong place and time,
For our civil rights, some paid the ultimate price,
To get the freedoms and opportunities we now have in life,
So proud of them and so ashamed of us,
Today we complain, refrain from change, and barely vote,
We have not overcome, still victims of the gun, slanging and hooked on dope.
