I took a stroll down the street
Walked passed some females
Eying me from head to feet.
A voice called out
Yo sis, where'd you get those kicks?
I turned, smiled and said
The same place you got your getaway sticks!
Oohs rang out from covered mouths
As fingers pointed the ringleader's way
Aww man, she clowned you yo!
What you got to say?
Man please, I ain't wastin' my time
She ain't nobody anyway
She ain't down, she ain't hip
I dropped my head, laughed
And bit my lip
I beg to differ my sista
Even a blind man can see
That I'm down
With a lineage deep rooted like trees
I'm grounded from the top of my head
To the depths of my soul
I seek guidance
When things get outta control
I don't need to be hip
Got plenty of those already
Knowing who I am from
The inside out keeps me rock steady!
So why me, why today?
Nothing else better to do?
Lemme guess same old same old
As always nothin' new?
Hangin' day in and out
Your routine is methodical
Your scenery ain't changin'
Because you're so thrasonical.
Come from behind that wall
See yourself as you should
Don't be defined by the status quo
Just because you from the hood.
We're all cut from the same cloth
Just a different part of the fabric
And when we reign over society's game
Were the ones who wreak havoc.
Ain't no black or white robes here
We all stand on common ground
It's time to rise above this nonsense
Now let me ask you, are you down?
