there was a ring my mother once wore
she told me it was my birthstone
she would give it to me when I was grown
she kept her promise took it off and gave
it to me one night I took it and went on
with my life soon after times got hard
for me my stomach was so empty, I was
hungry so, I took it off put it in a pocket
went to a pawnbroker and hocked it
took the stack and did not look back
while pondering over things I truly
lack I wish I had that ring back
