My 40 and 1
1 acre for the pain
2 for the hurt
3 acres for the deception
4 for the births...of the babies ripped from their mothers wombs
5 for the beatings
6 for the grooms....that were taken and sold on their wedding nights
7 for being penalized because we're non-white
8 for those that lost their way
9 for what still goes on today
10 acres for the masters that broke the chain and created the Halfbreed.com domain
11, 12 and 13 for the passage
14 for the slaughter
15 & 16 for the sons and daughters of the Motherland stripped of its rightful owners
17 for the mental oppression
18 for the misplaced aggression
19 for the movement of change
20 for just because society needs to be rearranged
21 thru 25 for the heritage molding
26 and 27 for the family values stolen
28 for the lynches so cruelly bestowed
29 for the bombings, the ignorance and Jim Crow
30 acres for out ancestors
31 for their trauma; which in turn created the Martins, Malcolms and Obamas
32 for the Future; a grim overcast
33 for the Present; a subliminal Past
34 is reserved for the ones who died by hands, by ropes or guns. Just for trying to help us Blacks find what was ours and take it back
35 for my people in the system caught up
36 for my sistahs who won't measure up....to a hill of beans if they can't see that they're worth more than what's "In dem jeans"
37 for our babies, let them know what it means to be born with the bloodline of kings and Queens
38 for the fact that if it were meant to be, we'd all be of the same character, race and creed
39 acres for whatever you want
You're dreams are the minds release
Find yourself and become involved
You'll feel that inner peace
40 acres for the promise of a better tomorrow
Where my color won't bring me grief or sorrow
But I, until then, with my head held high
Will keep mine eyes fixed on the sky
And thank God for whom He wanted me to be
I am my peoples keeper
I am proud
I am free
And
I have it in writing that I get a mule
It comes with the land
You made the rules
Now hand it over and I'll be on my way
You've got a long line of reparations to pay
No Limits; Know Dreams
