Who are you?
Not usually a question asked of me
Yet I’ve asked myself that almost daily
Came up with many answers to tell
Most with the mind frame of whatever I do I will never fail
These days people love to tell you who you are
And what you’re all about
Skin color mocha, hair curly when wet yet nappy in a drought
As soon as I open my mouth to speak one single line
You would swear the opposite, looking back at least one time
White girl, oreo, I’ve heard it all before
Cant help that’s how I was raised
Glad its helped open doors
I say I am a lesbian
And that I have a son
Then get told “oh no you cant be that, you’re just having fun”
“you know lesbians love women, they would never date a guy”
Try to live for family like I did, might find yourself living a lie
All in all the fact still remains the same no matter how you find it
Your life is only yours to choose how to align it
Don’t waste time answering those caught up in the hype
Only thing relevant is if you feel it is right
