Grandma

What can we say about grandma The matriarch of the family The one who brought us all together for holidays and family reunions The one who taught us all how to cook a good meal; Remembering when grandpa told those stories from back in the day Grandma was always the one who saved the day When mom and dad wouldn't buy us that treat Oh don't worry, grandma snuck it to us, with a wink Weekends at grandm's was filled with fun and adventure Great times and life lessons all spun through games and songs Geandma made sure every second of every visit was a treasure She was full of wisdom and shared it all Full of joy or patient no matter what it was about when we called Now it's time for grandma to rest Let God hold her close to his breast Although we will miss her for all our days We will remember all the important lessons she has given us always Our hearts rejoice that she is at peace finally As we know she will always be with us completely.

Love

What is love you ask?

It comes in many forms.

From the most subtle to the most extreme, but through it all we dig in deep.

We search it out, we beg, we fight, we laugh, we cry, we even sigh.

Love I've seen in many forms, from sitting on the porch to storming out the door.

You wonder where the love is through that clatter, but honestly if love wasn't there would, it even matter?

I've seen love last so long you question the tactics, but true love needs no lessons to flourish.

I've seen love burn so bright you wonder if at some point it might just fizzle out of sight, but true passion, will stand the test of time and find ways around any obstacles that come by.

No matter the type of love you share with the ones you love, hold them tight and don't let go.

We only have one life to live and live it we must.

So let's live it to the fullest with love in our hearts.

Do You Care?

Do you care...That I had to apply for food stamps today? I am hungry. I have a child to feed.

I sit there in my one-bedroom apartment struggling with my teenaged son, wondering if the lights will get turned off today. I'm rushing to work in that supermarket downtown.

I have to walk miles to get from place to place. Feet tired from standing all day while I wring up your groceries. I Drag myself home, we’re having rice and beans for dinner again tonight.

I’m always so exhausted after a long day that all I can do is crash. As I lay in bed trying to sleep and forget for a moment all the stresses of my life, a slow tear falls from my eye. Do you care?

Do you care...That I served my country as a good citizen should? I am homeless. I am hungry.

I sit on this bench wondering where my next meal will come from. My nightmares play in my mind like a song on repeat. Remembering the soup...

Full Circle

In my mind’s eye I see the past, the present, the future
Where has our history gone, our pride, our structure
Mothers of old must be ashamed
Mothers today who can you blame?
You were not taught these values
You were not taught this self hate
Yet I look around and see a crumbling
A decline of self respect and humbling
What can we do to rectify this state?
Who do we turn to for truth about hate?
Elders stand up sit these kids down
Let them know what miseries abound
Teach them life’s true lessons
Teach them the heart’s true blessings
 

Life

Through many years, trials and tribulations
We had ups and downs and party invitations
Our lives were touched by people young and old
Our children are the ones that keep us young and bold

The things we do and say have meaning
Our actions teach us like a child weaning
Every action has a consequence
Every thought has a sequence

The events of our lives give us a reason to strive
Our mistakes give us lessons to learn in our lives
The love we feel may last forever
The hate will pass and stay with us never

Forgiveness is a quality that’s true
Holding a grudge will eat up at you
Holding on to something that will never last
Is not healthy for us we must leave it in the past

Life is full of hard choices and strife
We just have to drive on and keep living our life
What good can come from dwelling on what couldn’t be
We must look to the futur...

Trials of Life

Life is full of ups and downs
You live it like your going to drown
You struggle through the turbulent water
To find that you continually falter
What do you do when it becomes too hard
You laugh
You cry
You wish you could ward
Off all the misery that life seems to bring
And keep only the things that your happiness sing
If only life could be so easy
To get rid of the bad and keep all the good
The air would seem so light and breezy
And you would never have to hide behind a hood

When I look into the mirror
The beauty you find inside of me

I see only pain and agony
I see only scars of them

You look at me with love so pure
It’s a sight I’ve never seen
I look in a mirror, a terror so sure
A reflection of what I’ve been

How do I change the image there
To the one you see of me
Help me find the path my dear
Help me to set myself free

You were the one who gave me birth
You were the one who healed my hurts
You were the one who helped me walk
You were the one who taught me to talk
For all this I just want to say thank you momma

You were the one to teach me to read
You were the one to teach me to see
You were the one to sooth my pain
You were the one who never placed blame
For all this I just want to say thank you momma

When I was struggling you helped me out
When I was happy you cheered and shout
When life dealt a blow you were there for me
When I felt trapped you set me free
For all this I just want to say thank you momma

When all is said and done you are the one
Who was always there through sadness and fun
If ever there was a person that deserved a holiday
It’s the lovely lady that helped me to cherish everyday
