I refuse to let anyone offend my
sensibility to challenge my
Intelligence or my lady like
femininity
It’s my God given right to
pursue education and mental
fortification to cultivate my
nation and be a true mother
of civilization
The dirt of the earth my
hands toil as my loving spoils
as my essence graces the
earth it uncoils
I hold my head up high keep
my spirit positive to maintain
my indigo pride I keep on
stroking never breaking my
African stride
Why? B-cuz I am the soul of
a black woman I come in
a variety of colors and flavors
from sweet honey to heavenly
caramel, smooth cappuccino
and rich dark espresso to the
richest of dark chocolate cream
make your heart scream
my barefooted thoughts and
ambitious dreams
I am a black woman with my
own thoughts and opinions
writing my own way crossing
all T’s and dotting all dots
So for all your far-fetched
thoughts from the Cayman
Islands to northern seas
I am nothing other than me
the soul of a black woman
