I won't give up on you

I watched you die a long time ago

there was no funeral or burial, just

Burnett vodka bottles and the smell of cigarettes

I tried to save you but my all of my efforts were rejected

Everyone said that I was wasting my time, they said you were too far gone

I nearly killed myself trying to resuscitate you

I almost gave up but just when I was about to accept defeat..

you looked at me, your eyes were weak and your breathing was shallow 

but i could tell that you were happy that I was still around

So I’ll stay as long as you need me

Who says good things last forever? I've seen snow melt, flowers died,Friends leave, and old folks forget great times

But who says bad things last forever? I've also seen snowfall,flowers bloom, friendships start, and babies smile for the first time

Masks

Everyone walk around with masks on..

It creates the illusion that we are all the same

We hide our feelings, wants, and needs

& settle for security instead of true happiness

We’re scared to be vulnerable instead we build guards

that block true love, opportunity, and creativity

Masks will only hide you from the world but

you’ll always know who you are…

I think it’s interesting that

We’re willing to torture ourselves to please others

But think it’s selfish to please ourselves..

We allow people to tell us what best for us

and we believe them because we can’t see their flaws

But if you remove their mask you’ll see scars

Nobody is perfect

Nobody has all the answers…

We’re scared to expose ourselves because we fear

being labeled as crazy or weird but

Fathers are leaving and Mothers are not showing up

Guns teaching N**gas, so these black kids aren’t growing up

Home life is hell, and in school they don’t know enough

Forget about the money, let’s teach these kids survival

Teach them about hard work and determination

Country living can some times be as sweet as northern tea

I want to walk in a place where the "strangers" don't know me
