Anticipating bad news

The phone rings

Stomach in knots

A butterfly's heaven

Palm sweats

As the voice cracks

Anticipation

Plagued by dark thoughts

The distance

Makes every phone call

Difficult to bear

Out of fear

Your mind races

Your heart paces

Deep down a sigh of relief

Is waited upon

With bated breath

Thoughts of death

Expelled

When the voice

On the other end of the line

Is one happy

And familiar in tone

A life lived like this

With the anticipation of bad news

Isn’t worth the breathe

Expelled every morning

The Immortal Wize says:

My mom use to say that she held her breath when ever her phone rung at a certain hour, this speaks to that kind of beating heart so poetically.
