Today is no different
than yesterday
and tomorrow
will be likewise
least we fail
not to realize
that apathy is
a quiet infectious disease
malignantly infusing fear
eating away courage—
feeding despair munching
on desire to live free
rather than die a slave
because if there is hope
of a tree, so for you and me.
Yesterday gave us today
and tomorrow’s children
wait out the past
in the present—
their future on hold
but time never stops
and is always free
and is now and is ours
to now get busy
spreading the trowel of justice
paving the path
for those to sojourn
with us and in their time
that’s been coming
since time immemorial
and has now arrived
for us to do
what must be done
to weave our past
present and future
into quilted liberation:
let’s get to sowing
my people—
time is on our side.
