In the nexus of my birth (Chicago)
On a business trip so the visit was terse
I don’t know which was worse
A tale of two cities one pretty (downtown) the other (Southside)hurt
I enjoyed both parts for what its worth
But the nicest ride of some lives ends up in the back of a Hearst
Drugs, gangs and corruption
Lack of morals is the assumption
But the lack of jobs and education caused the situation
Mothers and fathers in prison without cause or explanation
The young, gifted, and black get processed like a raisin
In the the sun, dried and blinded by hypocrisy
Social programs cut buy conservative philosophy
Votes and protests won’t fix this mess
Revolution and looting are symptoms of our distress
A real paradigm shift is need to uplift
Useless, Money, God, and charitable gifts
Backpacks and free bikes won’t save lives
When every day they surrounded by struggle and strife
When the oppressed can no longer tolerate the lunacy
They leave their homelands in search of freedom and opportunity
Maybe we should do the same....
