There Was A time

There was a time when families stayed, prayed, and stuck together

Now it's like no one knows each other

There was a time that children by themselves could walk to the store

In this time they go missing so not anymore

There was a time when drugs were used but mostly, weed

Now they are mixing drugs and killing the feens

There was a time when TV's were off at 10

Now the TV channels never end

There was a time when neighbors were your friend

Not you have to watch neighbors and your own back again

There was a time when you saw street lights 

Most of the children would be in

Now the parents are scared to discipline

Why Must I try to Survive ForJust Being Black Me

How can the free fight to be free?
Why must I try to survive for just being Black me?
They don't want me to walk
They don't want me to run
I can't buy candy
Without them pulling their guns
They don't want me to sleep
They don't want me to kneel
They see me as a target
So they continue to kill
Why again must I try to survive to be Black me?
I can't barbecue
I can't stand in the street
But they can hide their faces with different uniforms and sheets
They don't want me to drive
I can't  get a peaceful pullover
Get out of the car don't move
Hands over your shoulders
I can't go to church
They don't want me to pray
Because my every attempt to rise
They block my way
Why again must I try to survive to be Black me?
There is no justice and there is no peace

 Imagine them telling you 

You'd never be free

When you have children they tell you they belong to me 

Once again they remind you how you would never be free

Daily beatings to master you pray

In your head you tell yourself one day 

They hear you praying 

And You Hear them say 

The Lord doesn't listen to s pray

In your mind and heart says escape

You can't take anymore

Your feet are hurting

Asking the Spirit to lead the way

I gave you my peace

You infected my mind

I thought it was love

You to belittled me

Me feeling broken

Full of self doubt

Wondering will it get better

So many focused on helladays
What about our ancestors
Who fought for our heaven
