Skin Deep

Goodie Mob once released a song called Beautiful Skin, I was too young to understand the full concept of what I was hearing, but I knew that it was endearing to the females around me, see truth is, beautiful skin only went skin deep, because still in the 90’s, being lite was right and being dark...well...it was sort of a misconceived notion, it was kind of like the mad scientist who drunk the evil potion and turned into something that the world didn't wanna see, but then I got older, I grew up and realized that pigmentation is what allowed me to connect, I realized being dark wasn't a death threat and lite skin didn’t equate to higher status, see to keep it real, black women are the baddest creatures walking the planet, and when they were planted in the soil as a seed, the areas where light was plentiful sprouted them into beautiful greens, where rain over did the light, their skin was a lil darker but their insides was moisturized and ripe, so if you don't get why they say the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice, eat that dark skinned woman’s pink fruit up and holla at me...see I can never look at trees the same, because the same process in which they grew is the same way my sisters did, and just like fall, they began to change colors and shades, see I drink black coffee for breakfast with no sugar no cream, I like my chocolate dark and raw, I like that brown skinned peanut butter that’s protein rich, I love the ones with a red and yellow tint, I savor the taste of the mocha latte that don’t come from starbucks because something that taste so good should never be confined to just a cup, simply put it, I love black, I love the curvature in her hips, the fullness of those lips, I palm herin the cusp of my hands because I was raised to understand that men work with their hands, and trust me baby, it’s okay if you don't have a backside, we can work that out with a couple of squat sets and nightly massages to each cheek, take some of that tension away, and speaking of away, please do not send non melanated stick figures my way, because for so long, they were made to be the standard, being black was not cool, curly hair was despised, thick thighs and hypnotizing eyes were considered manly, they said the best women were walking sticks but *** that, I want the well aged sequoia with the vines going up the bark, and they say everything turns dark when the lights go out, please, our melanin source doesn’t need power surges and switches to activate tanning beds, this is all organic with no preservatives, additives or artificial flavors, so while you process your meat with injections to increase its girth, I dig my food source from mother earth, from whence she gave birth to those berries, because dark fruit contains antioxidants and properties that nurture your insides and mind, keeps you skin shiny, PH levels balanced, and it seems like a perfect imbalance at times, but when the right black woman comes to me, my sphinx tattoo will come alive and said , this is cleopatra reincarnated, you better love her blackness like you love to work out, and work her mind out til she gives you permission to work her out, and when you work her out, let her put history lessons on your tongue so everytime you breathe you are literally speaking from the book of Amun Ra, the book of the living, because when you savor the black woman, you literally taste life
