Forever intertwined
Circled, twisted and winding
Leading you back
To where you started
But along your journey
No matter how many times
It seems you’ve crossed
Over the same road
There’s something different
You hadn’t see before.
Farm animals watching
As you go by,
Holsteins, black angus, horses
Goats and sheep stare quietly.
A tire swing moves ever so gently
By way of the summer’s breeze.
Laughter echoes in the distance
As children play.
Dogs barking keeping watch
Simply say hello, how are you?
This is my domain
But you are welcome to
Come and visit just the same.
The tall grass whispers
To the weeping willows.
Mighty oaks landmark
Commonly known spots.
Long dirt roads shortcut
Past big red barns on farms
With giant blue silos owned by
Generations of locals,
Leading out to the river.
A tree log serves as a relaxing place
For anyone wanting to get away
From momentary stress.
Engraved hearts and initials are
Left as a reminder of loves shared.
A deck just at the water’s edge
Is where kids fish and swim.
Who’s the best rock skipper?
Hmmm, let’s see!
As the sun begins to set
A cooler breeze rolls through
The fun is over
It’s time to head back.
Never was really lost,
Just welcomed on a tour
Of the countryside.
A journey I’m sure
I won’t forget.
So it’s back on the road I go
On that long country road
Forever intertwined
Circled, twisted and winding
Leading me back to where I started.
Smiling.
