Saw your headlights
In my rearview mirror.
You got so close
That my soul began to quiver.
Pulled over
And braced myself
To come in last
But to my untimely surprise,
You wanted more
Than the right to pass.
You pulled behind
My stalled vessel,
Waited patiently
For the stars to settle.
You got out of the vehicle
With your promises drawn
And convinced me
To surrender
To your idea of a happy home.
Tucked me in
Without sheets,
Turned off the lights
And dared me to leave.
Turned on the television
And forced upon me
Your favorite reruns.
I watched for nothing
But the Sun.
And once that miracle
Peeped through the blinds,
I pushed you out of me
And tiptoed to the living room
As you slept off your lines.
Tasted my token
Out of the house,
Paused,
Then
Sat myon the couch.
Reminded myself
That if freedom
Were all that great,
I would not have given in
So easily in the first place.
(Got up and prepared breakfast)
