Black Face

Must be nice to be able to take it off at night

Rub melanin that is washable off that skin

Hiding behind the ignorance of “I meant no harm’’

“But black girls wear straight weaves with blonde hair & they bleach their skin.”

Why can the offense just be what it is….

Offensive?

How much longer do you want to wear my bones?

You want my skin so badly?

Can you handle the oppression that comes with it?

The self-care that brown women need?

We are born fighters

Eliminating the negative

Challenging and uplifting our broken men up right,

From a people who hate us so badly

But want to look like us?

What’s so wrong with being white?

Paint on black face with big lip injections and fake “birthing hips”

All while calling my dark skin “ugly”

Steal our language & our culture from off our tongues

Shadow every movement that we make

Wear us like clothes

Discard us

But don’t remember whose back it was that you climbed on

My curves are questioned

My features are questioned

I’m a mo****f****n warrior

Held hostage in a land that belongs to me

You want that too?

The burden of what it means to be so called “black”

I keep my head high because my ancestors told me to

I keep my feet forward and march left because I was chosen to

You

Can’t

Have

That

TOO

Keep the a** injections

And the collagen fillers

Perm your hair and make it curly

Manipulate it to make it kinky like mine

As a matter of fact

Keep the wigs too

Wear us like a trend

Demonize our “ghetto” upbringing all while mimicking it at the same damn time

Queens have no competition

But know that you can’t walk in my shoes

And that your privilege knows no bounds

And that you’ll assume the identity of a dead woman just so that we can see that “you were here first”

Go ahead mistress

Whose children that my ancestors breastfed

Whose homes that they cleaned

Whom you tortured because your men desired them

Whose meals permeated your foyer with the scent of the heavens

We have not forgotten

You give us no respect

Acknowledge nothing

Deny anything

Play the victim throughout history

Wear my face like a costume

This skin doesn’t belong to you

You didn’t earn the features

I’m not a t-shirt

I’m not a pair of mf boots

I’m not a pair of jeans

I’m not your accessory

No,

It’s not just makeup

It’s mo****f****n offensive!
