- Prologue: Pondering
There was once a time when holidays
Were devoted to sacred memories
And analysis of their allegorical messages;
Where have those holidays gone?
Today, holidays such Thanksgiving, Christmas
And Easter, are preceded by—during arrival
And after passing—outrageous merchandise
Related sales given birth names such as
“Black Friday”, “Happy Saturday”, “Cyber Monday”
“Sunrise Savior Sunday Deals”, “Xmas Joy”!
Ironically, caught up in the capital market venture,
Places of worship find themselves installing
“Deposits Only” debit machines at their entrances.
- Epilogue: Oh Well
The Good thing about today’s holiday spirit is
Families are given hefty food baskets
Even though they may not have a stove to cook on!
And while a New Year eventually comes,
Old struggles and sufferings remain behind;
Refusing to leave and abandon their old poor souls.
