lightness in the dark
Hey there my fellow poets! Blessings and greetings to you all for a prosperous new year. Life has been pretty rough for me since I last posted but nonetheless, as always with God's mercy and grace I've persevered. I'm finally at a point where I can start posting again. I so miss being on here and reading everyone's works. I hope that everything is going well for everyone. Let's keep the inklove flowing!

The Way I'm Feeling (Right Now)

Throat so sore it could
Scratch sandpaper.
Every time I sneeze
I’m punched in the throat
Time for an old fashioned remedy,
A hot tottie.
Simple ingredients, 1 16 oz mug,
2 tea bags, steeped strong,
A dash of cinnamon for a unique flavor,
2 peppermints, 2 halls melted down
Lemon juice, fresh is best
Although bottled will do
And honey to taste.
Then comes the kicker,
The main ingredient
That makes all the difference.
For some it’s brandy but for me
Something stronger.
My preference is Cruzan 151,
Not a whole lot is needed, just enough
Added last after all the heat and melting,
Then inhale the steam and sip!
Be sure to drink while hot,
But finish to the last drop even if cold.
Savor the flavor and feel the
Mellowness that’s comes over you.
Feeling relaxed just before bed,
I cocoon myself in my comforter
And sweat it out the rest of the night.
Tomorrow morning will determine
How I feel.

Overly impressed and excited about your ability to combine a recipe with poetry and make it and enjoyable read! Great job!

I Love the Hot Tottie... I Use Cognac Myself, but Yes, a Very Mellow Drink when the Weather is Cold. Great Poem!

LP45 says:

Thanks Karma. I have yet to try cognac myself personally but I'm sure it would work well with this too. I mainly make these when I feel a cold coming on but sometimes when allergy season kicks in and my system tries to go hay fever (haywire joke) LOL. Thanks for the read as well.

You "un-nailed" it, my Sister! Yes..."joy comes in the morning" There was a time that I got up 10 times! to go; yet, each time, I said, "Thank you God!" Thanks. Peace and Love to you and my Brother. M' Lowe

Thanks for the read 2B, although it took a second one to get me through, it worked nonetheless. I put a little extra in the second time. I think that's probably why it worked, LOL! Thanks for your continued support my friend!

LP45 says:

Thank you also Mlowe5. This is true. I actually wrote a piece for one of my uncles that passed a few years ago, entitled My Joy Cometh In the Morning. It was one of his favorite scriptures. Thanks for the read and continued support. Peace and blessings to you and your family as well.
