Trying to waltz around
to freedom and liberation
Is like an avian trying
to take flight and soar
without wings;
likewise, trying to cha-cha
to the same
Is like taking one step forward…
and two steps backwards.
And it has been revealed
that hustling has its drawbacks too!
Everybody is hustling
but everyone’s hustle’s results are not
the same ethnically, socially, economically
nor politically; and for what it’s worth—
if not seer worthless—trying to bogie-down
to freedom and liberation is just that;
degrading a bogie-down thing!
Today, the rhythmic timing to
freedom, justice and equality,
has become a noisy off-beat echo of
“No justice! No peace!”
For us, justice is still lacking
and so is inclusive peace of mind.
Though we have fought for and won
constitutional amendments,
we remain the least ethnic group to reap
the benefits of them.
Though we may still enjoy a slow-drag grind
in the struggle, this is not just the Blues!
This is Gospel! So let us leap out of our pews
of apathy—jumping and shouting in the isle-fields
of liberation—getting back into our sable warrior spirit
needed to ensure [all inclusive] equality becomes a reality!
