A single car engine
Purrs in the night
As I walk by.
The highway hums silently
As a toot of the security system
And dash lights symbolize
The owner is in for the night.
An inflated white bunny acts as a
Sentry from the third floor
Directly above my place.
Silent is the night
Except for the turnpike
Forever melodious with travelers
In the distance.
Our main road boasts
Every now and again
With a single car going by.
The light of a jet plane
Can be seen as a beacon
In the midnight sky
Yet its roar not heard.
A gentle breeze blows
Allowing the cherry blossom
To dance ever so slowly.
Christmas lights upon a second floor
Balcony two buildings over
Remains lit.
Perhaps for decoration, not sure.
Nonetheless as I turn and look
At my community under
The clouded, starlit skies of March,
The full moon reflects
On the windshield of my vehicle.
A heater kicks on
Behind and above me
To take off the chill
Of the night.
The cool night air feels good
Upon me for the moment
But it’s time to go in.
I take a few steps backwards
To soak in all the goodness
Of the night as I bid a
Farewell to the decorative
Moonlit clouded sky
That graces the night
At Royal Crescent.
