Early afternoon laying in the sand
On a large beach towel shell in my hand
Lullabied by the sound of the waves
One hour into seizing the whole day
Even with my eyes closed, the sun's still so bright
Aware of its movement and location, a few hours before twilight
Rubbing grains of sand between my fingers and toes
As the sweet salty air seduces my nose
My wife and kid are building a castle a few feet away
I can hear their voices, but can’t make out what they say
Giggles and questions mean that daughter’s content
My wife was relaxed and enjoyed our time spent
That fun day at the beach last year now seems like a dream
No masks, no pandemic, man I miss 2019!
