When I walk amongst you, what to see? Do you see a man, faceless, non-threatening, carefree?Do you look at me holistically? See the gambit of emotions and life experiences Can you honestly say you look at me?

I am a warrior born.Fighting battles in a seemingly endless conflict I fight as a man used to the scorn A poor man's tool in the machine of the rich You scoff because I can square my shoulders and hold my head high My pride and my passion are sword and shield sent from on high Now can you feel me? 

You feel safe when my manner emulates your own Thinking I'm like you a politically rhetorical drone You think you know me, but all you see is what I choose to reveal You don't see the smoldering rage that burns beneath my layer of steel. Ohhhh, you don't know me !

Streets are burning People screaming Society a mish mash of personal demons Can you hear the yearning?

The desire for the same freedoms Equality for ...

The Rebirth of the Nation

Five score and five years ago hatred was embraced

Backed by fear and usurping common sense

Sons and daughters are condemned based on race

Putrid visuals of man's self-hatred three hours condensed

It gave rise to gathering darkness wrapped in white

America's shining glory reflected in torches.

Death, despair, deceit lived as one with the chosen

They sustained themselves on a lingering notion

Not love or compassion, nor revenge or malice

Clinging to that intangible thing, that hope

Hope for today, hope for tomorrow, hope in their devotion

Even as the cross burned on that granite mountain

Like sprinkles on ice cream signs of change became evident

Education, employment, community were signs of progress

There in the heat of oppression where a knockout punch to Max was heaven-sent

Strident voices ring with defiance

Strong minds stage the attack with mutual reliance

A change has come

A rage has begun

It's simmered for centuries 

Manifested in a field of emptiness

The long winter with no green on life-bearing trees

From the sunrise to the sunset

The warriors answer and attend the battle

Boundaries exist no more for this unrest

Behold the new world

Observe freedom unfurled

A multitude of faces held high 

Pride and anger living side by side

Young and old and all in between

The distinction in this battle 

The hearts rhythmic beating 

Facing the tyranny showing what matters

Its lives and love, birthing and creating

Tears for the evolution
