When the sun rises
Morning dew glistens upon grass blades
Like a sea of diamonds.
Birds sing good mornings
Alarm clocks, sizzling hot pans
And brewing coffee
Trigger the senses
Tantalizing cilia bringing us
Out of our nightly slumber.
Footsteps, door locks and
Jingling keys start the hellos,
Car engines join in on
The conversation of our daily travels.
Chronologically revving up to
Start the work day routine.
Blowing kisses to loved ones
Standing in doorways,
Arm waves are exchanged with
Mouthings of I love you as
Cars take to the roadways.
Tuning radios and honking horns
Begin the rush hour serenade,
Moving along to your music
Your carefree flow has you
Feeling good and smiling
Time flows effortlessly with you
Nothing will stop you
From making it to work ...yeah!
Then almost halfway through,
The free flow begins to slow as
Brakes and downshifting motors
Coming from every direction
Becomes the proverbial “hum”
Of the highway.
For some choice words are
Mumbled under breath while others
Throw hands up in frustration.
But there are that select few
Who just go with the flow
No need for gettin’ upset,
Slow and steady makes it thru
With the greatest of ease
Pulling away from the crowd
You engage warp speed
As open road freedom rings.
Finally arriving at your destination,
You slow your roll allowing
Speed walking pedestrians to cross
As they race to punch the clock.
You’ve still got time before check in
So you chill contentedly smiling.
Knowing it starts all over again.
Tomorrow.
