When the engine is running
I’m gunning
Piercing through the wind
In a tunnel of lights
Over the bridges
Into the bright city night
Roaming free
Amidst urban sights
Skyscrapers standing tall
Proud statues promising never to fall
Down to the rail yards and factories
Outskirts of the city
Past pawnshops and liquor stores
Thieves in the night
Crooks and whores out to score
Back into the bright light
Theatres
coffee shops
Streetlights
leading down to the river’s shore
Riding on and on
Motor and music
Humming along
Pushing up into the hills
Beneath the midnight moon’s glare shining strong
To the lovers’ lot
The sacred spot
Where down below
The city glows on
Until in the morning
A sea of twinkling lights
Give way to the early morning dawn
