Though detoured—adding task to task—
We remain on the battlefield of the Lord
Armed with his grace and strengthen love;
Singing new Babylonian songs on the banks
Of the rivers of suffering in a no longer
Strange land; for we are the heirs of Middle
Passage survivors who came over the way
Watered with the blood of the slaughter.
We are well acquainted with grief, disparity
And death; as well as their disproportion
Among us—which the rest of the world has now
Become aware. Thus, in the wake of our present
Detoured pandemic dilemma let us not be
The victims of our own mocking self-deception;
For the only thing we are immune to is defeat—
Not the viral causes—check the data’s revelations.
Truth is our ally, not our enemy; let us take care
And not allow mocking myths be the detriment
Of our struggle; word up! hued Covid survivors,
Let us not fail to implement preventive behaviors
That will protect us against the evil viral oppressor.
Let us distance ourselves from the amusing myths,
Realizing that prevention remains better than cure
As we—ourselves—demonstrate how our Black Lives
Matter and that awareness outshine being sorry.
