They may have shadowed
The day, but the dream shines
As bright as everàvisionàreality!
Let’s gather the old dusty wine glasses;
For the lamb has gone into the demonic
Grazing fields of the many-headed beasts,
And despite the nightmares, has found
The bride of the dreamer waiting; so,
Let us prepare the toasting wine glasses—
There is a blessed wedding on the horizon!
Indeed, on this day—MLK DAY—let us praise
The son God sent bearing the freedom dream.
Has it not been written, “Behold, the tabernacle
Of God is with [us]…and…shall wipe away all tears…
There shall be more death, neither sorrow…crying,
Neither…more pain: for the former things are passed
Away.”
In a few days, we shall celebrate the passing of
Former oppressive evil, but today, let us celebrate
Him who ignited—and kept a blazed—the flame
Of hope; today, let us celebrate MLK, who took
His cue from Longfellow and reminded us…“We
must be hammers shaping a new society rather,
than anvils molded by the old.” [for by being so,
we would be given] “…a new kind of power…infused
with love and justice, that will change dark yesterdays
into bright tomorrows, and lift us from the fatigue
of despair to the buoyancy of hope.”
As we approach the celebration of the coming day
Of being closer to the viewed “Mountain Top”, let’s
Give thanks and praise for the God sent MLK who
Infused our eyes to ever remain on the prize; thus,
Today, in celebration of the life and works of MLK,
Let us raise our blessed glasses filled with the wine
from the cistern of hope, and cheerfully say, “I toast!
I toast the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” And do
Give God the praise for this modern-day prophet.
