I ain't got nothing to lose
nothing belongs to me
not possessively attached
to any thing in this world
born mama's baby but it
was experience that raise
me been here for a while
seen a lot of things I believe
a lot of stuff every body in
the family ain't no friend
bloods not always thick
enough if it's between
thick and thin going some
where know where I been
know my folks know my
kin know a snake when I
see one dream one it's a
warning sign kill one it's
done stay and fight don't
run it starts with a hunch
a tap on the shoulder
it tells me I'm getting older
it tells me I should be wiser
don't be careless reckless
and sloppy stay on guard
when I write I speak out
loud it's the only way I
can scream my art out
they told me go to work
you'll get paid but when the
check came couldn't make
rent money already spent
by the time pay day roll
around went back to school
to get a few more tools to
make some moves tighten
some screws paying back
student loans gave me blues
so deep in debt couldn't buy
new shoes had to tie the
old ones up and hit the
ground running beat the
pavement  so hard the
world knew I was coming
if I weren't up to no good
I wasn't doing nothing
mama said to me
"you picking in a the right
cotton patch to get 100"
black folks back then said a lot of
racist things and made a lot
of terroristic threats like
"I'm gone bless you and
the undertaker gone dress you"
I manage to get through it
alive couldn't be scared
inside trying to protect
my life outside enemy's
didn't know me I didn't know
the enemy could of been the
closes one to me seen too
many people go to school together
play outside with each other
grow up shoot and kill each other
those who survive the streets
grow up to have children
who repeat the same defeat
and trauma no debt goes
unpaid no one goes
unscathed referring to
Karma all debt must be paid
seen it go so many ways
on this stage like watching
plays on display thinking
about all the grave sights
all the names written on
stones of the one's gone
I wonder if they were here
now what would they think
of the world today and in it
what role would they play
would they be like me still
here telling it like it twas
and probably won't change
the written narrative

Indeed, it's a long story. And at this rate, when it's late and we're dead and gone, it'll still be going on. Peace and Love, mlowe5.
