Despite the truth
Some people are gonna believe
How and whatever they want
It’s nothing much that
Can be done about it.
What is it about lies that
Holds people so?
Was it the first thing they were told
That latched onto their brains?
And now despite the truth,
The lies still remain
Like permanent stains on concrete.
It’s like the jury is still out or
Too deadlocked to see
Through the lies of the guilty
Or the innocent’s pleas.
Despite the truth even with facts
No matter how many times
You explain it, it’s a wrap.
Their minds are glued shut
Like there’s only room
For one thought in their heads.
Getting them to understand
Is as hard as deaf ears
Hearing through brick walls.
Despite the truth
It’s only their version that matters
Yet they continue believing the lies
Even if the truth is staring them
Dead in their face.
Some finally seem to come around
After a few clunks on the head.
Others who adamantly refuse
To accept the truth
Have their heads glued in
Particular places so much so
They can only see and
Smell one thing.
That’s got to get uncomfortable
After a while or so one would think.
The truth albeit known is
Is chosen selectively.
Leaving some baffled as to why
We even bother to explain.
But it’s all good though,
We know who knows
The real truth.
Carry on.
