lightness in the dark
Hey there my fellow poets! Blessings and greetings to you all for a prosperous new year. Life has been pretty rough for me since I last posted but nonetheless, as always with God's mercy and grace I've persevered. I'm finally at a point where I can start posting again. I so miss being on here and reading everyone's works. I hope that everything is going well for everyone. Let's keep the inklove flowing!

Just like water

I can be your best friend

Or your worst enemy.

When treated respectfully,

There's nothing I won't do for you

I will fight for and with you

As long as you're right

But cross me the wrong way,

I will overflow my banks,

Water board you and make

Your life a living hell.

No dam you build will stop me,

You’ll never be out of my reach.

If I ever have to go this route,

It will be with good reason

And when you stop, I’ll stop.

But trust and believe that

I’ll do everything in my power

To first walk away,

And pray for help from above.

I prefer to be non confrontational.

Just like water, I’ll take

The least restrictive route.

Because I know how hurtful

My tongue can be.

I pray no one will ever see

That horrible side of me.

I’m a firm believer in karma,

And that you reap what you sow.

I strongly encourage living

By the golden rule.

There’s nothing I won’t say

To or about anyone else

That I’m not willing to say

To or about myself.

I believe in respecting others

And expect the same in return.

If you don’t like me or

Something about me just say so,

It’s absolutely fine.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion,

We can work the issue out together,

Or you can deal with it on your own.

But know I won’t be taken for a fool.

We all have our ups and downs

As much as we all have to coexist.

I will consider us as equal in life

As we are in death.

Until your actions dictate otherwise,

We’ll get along just fine

Living life the way it was intended,

Just like water.

Beautiful! And like evaporation and condensation, the Strong Black Woman just keeps coming on as a roaring as Niagra or as calm as a gentle stream---whatever is needed.

Love the dynamic flow of this piece. Brings back an echoing memory, "Well, baby, maybe you just need to get out of that troubling water; you can't handle it." Thanks for the share, Peace and Love.
