Out of the day, weird and as dark as the
morbid grave,
I walk through the shadows of old death
filled with rage.
Here in the declared land of the free and
home of the brave,
I’m still deemed no less than that of an old
unchained slave.
Daily life is lived no less than that of being
on death row;
The beautiful ebony sheen of my skin limits
where I can go.
Well at least in today’s shadows of death, I
protect the trees;
To save the forest, they now lynch blacks
with their knees.
Oh but now, the racist wrinkles of time are
being put to the tests;
Rainbow masses of fed-up youth flood the
streets with protests.
Here in the land of life, liberty and pursuit
of happiness,
Daring young people are challenging its viral
racist mess.
Putting their lives on the line for crimes against
you and me;
They’re showing the world a true commitment to
making all free.
Including all those lives of beautiful black people
like you and I be.
