As the day comes to a close
I sigh in relief and prepare for
My commute home.
Final filings make it to their
Location boxes just before 5pm
And a last minute straightening
Of my work area is complete.
My coat, bag and leftover lunch
Are simultaneously swept up
As I head for the elevator.
Glad to see another day’s end
I bid my coworkers a good night,
And give myself a few moments
Of solitude in my car before I go.
Basking in the silence I smile as
I give thanks while turning the key.
Pandora picks up where it left off
As the soulfulness of smooth jazz
Chills with me for the ride home.
No need for rushing though as
The daily bottlenecking begins
I change my mental mode as
My volume further drowns out the
Muffled clamoring of rush hour.
Boney, Miles, Kenny, Chuck, Kyle
Just to name a few take turns
Channeling my inner performer.
Music’s pumpin’, fingers poppin’,
Body rockin’, head bobbing!
I’m in total groove mode
And as I pull away from the crowd,
Onlookers nod in approval
I take the lead, center lane
Checking my rear and side view
Mirrors, headlights flash.
I drop my window, still rockin’
Gesture the peace and love signs,
Opened the throttle and
Leave them smiling.
Movin’ and groovin’
Feeling good and smiling
Time flows effortlessly with me
As I exit off the highway.
Turning off the main road
Into the our parking lot,
Just as the last song finishes.
My loves stand in the doorway
Beaming with excitement
As I exit my car welcoming me
With opened arms, hugs and kisses.
The lingering scent of dinner
Just behind them commands
The stresses of the daily grind to
Dissipate into the evening air.
With a final click of the lock
We bid the world adieu,
This is our time now, good night.
