A DAY OF COMMEMORATION; NOT OF MERE CELEBRATION

CATEGORY

Views: 125

Another year has come and gone

And injustice continues to rise and roam

Liberty and jurisprudence equity remains

To be extended to the hued like you and me

And during the year, we’ve had few if any gains.

Yet, despite it all, we’ve got a need to

Congregate;

But we gather to commemorate rather than to

Just celebrate.

We need to draw attention to the remaining we

Need to undo;

Much remains to gain true justice for hued ones

Like me & you.

The fight for justice we must continue to strive

And undertake.

Today we gather to commemorate the murderous

Deaths of the likes of those before and after brother, Floyd;

To reveal how growing injustice remains so notorious

And to underscore the inflating American equity ongoing void—

The constitution still used to aid systemic racist fraud.

And as we gather, let us be ever mindful of the need

To stop;

Self-annihilation of our own as if we were the syndrome

Hued cops.

This thing of the oppressed doing the oppressor’s work

Has to end;

Taking the lives of our own loved ones is such a great

Living sin!

We can’t allow black-on-black crime to ever infect us

Once again!
